He became infamous as the leader of the Bonnot Gang (also known as Auto Bandits), a French criminal anarchist group that was well-known for their use of automobiles and newly modern weaponry. Bonnot was a follower of illegalism, a philosophy that illegal acts were acceptable in the pursuit of an anarchist society.
Bonnot died in a shootout with the police on April 28, 1912.
